Farriers’ Fitting Hot Spicy Tuna Salad Recipe

Here at the Keesling house (also the home of HoofPrints.com), most of our day is spent tending to customers’ orders, remodeling the house, and doing outside chores. There’s not much time left for cooking, but we still gotta eat. Whenever I want to try something new, and go looking online for recipes, what I end up finding are meals that look yummy, but entail 49 different steps and result in a sink full of dirty dishes before we even get to sit down and eat.

We use Farriers Fitting Hot Sauce on everything; meat, vegetables, noodles, even eggs, and in upcoming blog posts I’ll be sharing some of my favorite fast and easy recipes.

This is a superfecta recipe: It’s fast, easy, delicious and healthy! Cleanup is a snap, too, only two dishes and a few utensils dirtied, start to finish! Takes just a few minutes to throw together.

First, assemble these ingredients:

  • 5 – 5 oz cans tuna in water (leftover cooked turkey works well also)
  • 15 oz can cannellini (white) beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 c celery, chopped
  • 1/2 c dill pickles, coarsely chopped (or dill relish, drained)
  • 1/3 c Miracle Whip Salad dressing
  • 2 tbsp Farriers Fitting Hot Sauce (any flavor) available here
  • paprika
  • salt
  • black pepper

Tools you will need:

  • large-ish bowl with lid
  • strainer
  • bowl that fits under strainer
  • favorite rubber spatula for scooping Miracle whip and stirring

Drain bean juice into bowl, rinse well and add to lidded bowl. Drain tuna into bowl, getting as much liquid off as you can. Take the bean and tuna juice, and toss it outside. I learned this the hard way. Our sink drain works as expected, but there’s something about tuna and bean juice that manages to stink up the kitchen for a while afterward.

Mix remaining ingredients, and you’re done. Serve with lettuce as a protein-packed salad topper. With crackers as a hearty snack. Or spread on bread for a sandwich/meal.

*Note about the unorthodox inclusion of beans: Numerous sources cite beans as a superfood, with benefits ranging from heart health to weight loss. Armed with this information, I strive to incorporate them, along with a lot of other veggies, into our diet. I keep a variety of beans in the pantry, so am always changing up my recipes to utilize them. There’s a list ranking the top five healthiest here.

Farriers’ Fitting Hot Sauce Gift Set includes three flavors; Fitting Hot (Cayenne), Fitting Hotter (Jalapeno) and Fitting Hottest (Habanero). We taste tested these, and while I would call them rather zippy, they are not so very hot that most folks wouldn’t enjoy them. Each glass bottle is 5 ounces, comes attractively gift boxed as shown.
